LASIK candidacy
Am I too young to get LASIK?
LASIK candidates need a stable prescription, which means a minimum age of 18. Most people have a stable prescription by around age 21, and your free consultation confirms whether yours has settled enough for LASIK.
Am I too old to get LASIK?
There's no strict upper age limit, and LASIK is routinely performed on patients in their 40s and 50s. Candidacy depends on the health of your eyes rather than age alone; some older patients are better suited to an alternative such as refractive lens exchange.
Will LASIK correct my astigmatism?
Astigmatism can be corrected with LASIK for most people, including with CONTOURA® Vision topography-guided LASIK, alongside nearsightedness and farsightedness.
I've been told my cornea is too thin for LASIK. Is that accurate?
It's possible, but not always the final answer. Corneal thickness is one of several measurements taken during a comprehensive consultation. If LASIK isn't the right fit, our team can discuss alternatives such as PRK or EVO ICL.
If I'm not a candidate for LASIK, are there alternatives?
Yes. Many patients who aren't LASIK candidates qualify for EVO ICL, PRK, or refractive lens exchange. A free consultation determines the best option for your eyes.
LASIK safety
Is LASIK painful?
Most patients report minimal to no discomfort during the procedure thanks to numbing eye drops, and only mild irritation for a short period afterward.
Is LASIK safe?
LASIK is one of the most studied elective procedures performed today, with more than 40 million people treated worldwide since 1991. Price Vision Group has invested in the most advanced FDA-approved LASIK technology to ensure the safest, most precise procedures, and our surgeons helped write the national guidelines other providers follow.
Has anyone gone blind from LASIK?
There are no reports of blindness as a direct result of a LASIK procedure. Serious complications are rare, and your free consultation includes a thorough evaluation to confirm you're a safe candidate.
Is LASIK really better than staying in contacts?
A study of roughly 1,800 patients compared contact lens wearers with LASIK patients. Only 1% of the LASIK patients thought they were worse off after the procedure.
My eyes are sensitive and prone to dryness — will LASIK make that worse?
Dry eye is evaluated as part of your candidacy screening. In some cases an alternative procedure such as EVO ICL may be recommended if dry eye risk is a concern.
Can both eyes be treated at the same time?
Yes. Most patients have both eyes treated during the same visit, which simplifies recovery and gets you to clear vision faster.
After LASIK
When can I drive after LASIK?
Most patients can drive within one or two days, once cleared at their first follow-up visit.
When can I return to work after LASIK?
Patients usually return to work the next day, depending on the nature of their job and how quickly their vision stabilizes.
How long until my vision settles?
Vision improves quickly, but it can fluctuate for up to three to six months after surgery as your eyes finish healing. That's normal, and it's why follow-up visits are part of your care.
How long will LASIK last?
LASIK provides a permanent correction to your cornea. Your vision may still change with age due to normal processes such as presbyopia, but the LASIK correction itself does not wear off.
Does LASIK ever need to be repeated?
Enhancements are occasionally needed, and they are included within the first year after your procedure when performed by Dr. Price or Dr. Feng.
Will LASIK make me need reading glasses?
LASIK corrects distance vision but does not prevent presbyopia, the natural age-related loss of near focus that affects everyone over time. Patients approaching that stage may want to discuss refractive lens exchange as an alternative.
